We envision Handshake 2.0 as a model that can be used in other locales or by associations of companies or organizations.
A high-tech entrepreneurship news site showcasing the member companies and programs of VT KnowledgeWorks, a business acceleration center and technology incubatorlocated at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.
We consider Inside VT KnowledgeWorks the first Handshake 2.0 "franchise." It uses the model of an amalgamation of associated businesses or organizations using one site for publicity and promotion.

New River Valley Community Events, Incorporated - non-profit application status in process - was founded by Anne Giles Clelland in part to organize a sprint triathlon in the New River Valley of Virginia.
A pro bono client of Handshake Media, Incorporated (of course), except for one printed flyer with 300 copies, the entire public relations campaign for the inaugural New River Valley Triathlon in Virginia has been conducted using Handshake Media, Incorporated's services.
We expressed our dream of hosting a sprint triathlon in southwest Virginia in 2009 by launching a blog in December, 2007. We chronicled the evolution of the dream to a reality: acceptance by Set Up Events, the triathlon production company, of our event, selecting the benefiting charity - the Mental Health Association of the New River Valley, Inc. - securing sponsors, setting an event date, announcing the registration date, and, most recently, announcing an event date change due to construction delays.
We posted information on the blog - by which site users can subscribe via e-mail or RSS feed - posted updates and links to blog posts on Twitter, and e-mailed our contacts, who then forwarded e-mails to their contacts. We registered with multi-sports events sites. Other than the flyers created and printed by one of our sponsors, Coldwell Banker, Townside, Realtors, for placement at local sports venues, the entire event has been promoted online.
The New River Valley Triathlon blog launched December 21, 2007.
